NBC: Trying to Turn the Corner

Thanks to the Writers’ Strike, NBC had to pick up some new shows without seeing a pilot. Which means that some pilots are still being tweaked as we speak.

That means there are still some unknowns on NBC’s schedule. And that’s not good for a network trying to turn the corner…

NBC has five new shows: “My Own Worst Enemy,” “Knight Rider,” “Crusoe,” “Kath & Kim,” and “America’s Toughest Jobs.”

“Enemy,” which premieres Monday, October 13th at 10 p.m., stars Christian Slater as Henry, a family man who discovers he’s been living another life as Edward, a dangerous secret operative. The show also stars Alfre Woodard and Mike O’Malley…

“Knight Rider,” which premieres Wednesday, September 24th at 8 p.m., is, of course, an update of the 80s show and a continuation of last year’s TV movie. The series stars the Knight Industries Three Thousand voiced by Val Kilmer…

“Crusoe,” which premieres Friday, October 17th, is a new take on Daniel Defoe’s classic, “Robinson Crusoe,” about a castaway on a desert island and his companion set during the time of the original. And that’s all I’m going to say about that one…

“Kath & Kim,” which premieres Thursday, October 9th at 8:30 p.m., is a comedy starring Molly Shannon and Selma Blair as a dysfunctional mother and daughter. And yes, you are correct. Molly Shannon is not old enough to be Selma Blair’s mother…

“America’s Toughest Jobs,” a competition reality show where contestants take on some of the most dangerous jobs in the world, has already premiered. It currently airs Fridays at 8 p.m., but it is slated to move all over the place over the next month…

Here is the rest of NBC’s premiere schedule…

Monday, September 22nd, the return of “Heroes” gets an all-night event with a clip show at 8 p.m. and a two-hour season premiere at 9 p.m. I’ll have a review of the first hour of the premiere later this week…

Tuesday, September 23rd, it’s the return of “Law & Order: SVU” at 10 p.m…

Wednesday, September 24th marks the return of “Lipstick Jungle” at 10 p.m…

Thursday, September 25th, “My Name Is Earl” (8 p.m.) and “The Office” (9 p.m.) get one-hour premieres. The final season of “ER” begins at 10 p.m…

Monday, September 29th, “Chuck” returns at 8 p.m. Then after “Heroes,” “Life” gets a special preview at 10 p.m. “Life” will also air Friday, October 3rd and Monday, October 6th at 10 p.m. before settling into its regular day and time Friday, October 10th at 10 p.m. I’ll have a review of the “Chuck” premiere (and the next two episodes) next week…

Thursday, October 30th, it’s the season premiere of “30 Rock” at 9:30 p.m…

By the way, NBC is expected to welcome back ‘Friday Night Lights” sometime next year after the episodes run on DirecTV…
